In 2015, global law firm Bird & Bird completed its first year in the Australian market. The Sydney office is Bird & Bird's 27th and is fully financially integrated into the global firm.
In undertaking its rapid global expansion, from one office in 1995 to 28 today, the firm has stayed true to its point of difference and is now arguably the world's premier law firm advising businesses where technology, intellectual property and regulation are driving change. The success of the firm's strategy is born out in its consistent year on year revenue growth since 1995 and the fact that almost all of its offices are ranked in global publications as being amongst national, regional and international practice and thought leaders in areas such as communications, media, technology, competition and intellectual property law.
The firm's strategy of taking on highly regarded and culturally matched specialised firms in new knowledge economy jurisdictions saw it merge with leading Australian new economy firm Truman Hoyle in November 2014. Since that time the Sydney office has tripled the size of its intellectual property practice and grown the scale and complexity of its communications, technology, corporate and competition work significantly.
