Tax Reform Panel : Dr Martin Parkinson, Tony Shepherd AO, Luke Sayers, PwC & moderated by Alice Williams

The ABCC Tax Reform Panel consisted of Dr Martin Parkinson, Secretary of the Department of the Treasury;  Luke Sayers, CEO of PwC Australia and Vice Chairman of PwC Asia, Tony Shepherd AO, Chairman of the National Commission of  Audit, and was moderated by Alice Williams, a Non-Executive Director of Victorian Funds Management Corporation.

Dr Parkinson outlined several areas in Australia's current tax system that required examination.    The budget deficit was a structural one, he believed, and called for corporate and personal, tax cuts; he believes that our tax system is essentially unchanged since the 1950s  and that without reform Australia's standard of living will deteriorate.    Tony Shepherd suggested that the GST should be reexamined, and recognised that this would involve a challenge to federal | state cooperation.  Luke Sayers called for broad ranging discussions throughout the community, as the necessary changes would ensure a better future for everyone.

The ABCC would like to thank PwC and Mr Luke Sayers, for their support at this event.
