Sam Walsh AO
This lunch presented an opportunity to hear Sam Walsh, through a Q&A format, talk about his career journey, his own leadership metamorphosis through his roles with General Motors, Nissan Australia and Rio Tinto, and the leadership required to drive sustainable change and create a sense of energy and purpose for organisations.
The Chamber thanks Curtin Unversity for their support at this event.
Sam had a 25-year career with Rio Tinto, one of the world’s largest minerals and mining corporations, and was CEO from 2013 to 2016. Prior to this he spent 20 years in senior leadership roles with General Motors and Nissan Australia. He steered Rio Tinto through an industry downturn and positioned the company for growth with a reputation for “getting things done”.
In June 2017 he was appointed as a non-executive director of Mitsui & Co's global board. Sam is also Chairman of Accenture's global mining executive council, Art Gallery WA, the Perth Diocesan Trust, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and he is a Director of the Australian Council for the Arts.
