The Rt Hon. the Lord Mandelson

Widely credited as one of the chief architects of “New Labour,” Peter Mandelson held a number of UK Cabinet positions under Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, including Minister without Portfolio, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Northern Ireland Secretary and Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills. Mandelson was also the European Union’s Trade Commissioner between 2004 and 2008, where he negotiated trade agreements with a number of countries and led European negotiations in the WTO Doha Round.  

Most recently, in 2010, Mandelson co-founded Global Counsel, an advisory firm based in London, working with clients navigating the critical areas between business, politics and policy-making.

Peter Mandelson is President of the Great Britain China Centre, this non-departmental public body encourages dialogue and collaboration between Britain and China, and is President of the German British Forum, the UK’s primary bilateral forum for promoting dialogue on German-British business, social and political issues. He is Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University and is also President of the Policy Network think tank and Senior Adviser to Lazard.
