It is with a great sense of achievement and success that I have decided to step aside as the CEO of the Australian British Chamber of Commerce, effective from the 1st of March, 2023. As many of you know, the Australian British Chamber of Commerce has been not only my work, but my passion for the last 13 years.
The opportunity for a continued reinvigoration of the relationship, especially as the Australia United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement and the AUKUS Partnership reach phases of utilisation and implementation, means that this is an appropriate time for me to step aside and allow the next generation of leadership to take this relationship forward.
It has been my enormous privilege to lead the Australian British Chamber through one of the most influential, consequential and historical periods of the bilateral relationship. I have enjoyed the challenge of growing the Chamber by: developing our Membership, our team, our brand and our influence; providing guidance through Brexit and the successful negotiation of the Australia United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement; the inception and delivery of the Australian British Catalysts; to name but a few. These sit amongst a host of great programmes and initiatives that have given our Members and the wider diaspora of Australian, UK and other companies, access to senior leaders in both countries across a number of important sectors.
I am incredibly proud of the positive and engaged team that has delivered for the Chamber during my tenure, especially as we have grown our capability to connect, engage and influence outcomes for our Members and for the relationship more broadly between Australia and the United Kingdom.
It has been a pleasure and honour to have been able to work alongside so many of you directly in supporting your voice to be heard; be it to find and bring together business opportunities; advance public discourse and improve public policy making; or to improve the cooperation of the private and public sector both here in Australia and in the UK.
I am incredibly grateful for the ongoing support that I have received from our Membership and our Principal Sponsors and a broad and diverse network of individuals across a spectrum of industries, political figures, the Public and Civil Service and through other organisations supporting the bilateral relationship throughout that time. I have treasured the opportunity to learn and engage with you on your needs and am incredibly grateful for the deep and enduring friendships that I have forged through these experiences.
I leave the Chamber in a good financial position and in good stead to take on the future, with an exceptional team who will continue to foster the genuine relationships that are the foundation of the Chamber. I wish my successor and the staff continued success with the abundant opportunities that await in the emerging paradigm.
My very best wishes to you all and I look forward to staying in touch with many of you into the future,
David McCredie AM OBE
